1. CHEMICAL PRODUCT

  • Product type: demulsifier
  • Product description: oil soluble demulsifier, based on anionic and non ionic surfactants for slop oil treatment.

2. COMPOSITION/ INFORMATION ON INGREDIENTS

  • aromatic hydrocarbon 60 - 70 % Cas-nr.: 65996-79-4
  • surfactant-blends 10 - 20 % Cas-nr.: mixture
  • dobanic acid 20 - 25 % Cas-nr.: 68584-22-5

3. HAZARDS IDENTIFICATION

  • Physical/chemical Hazards: the product reacts with bases
  • Environmental Hazards: the product can initially have, in an aqueous environment, harmful effects.
  • Health hazards: after swallowing or vomiting the product can come into the lungs, what will lead to suffocation or chemical pneumonia. Hazardous if swallowed, the product is corrosive.
  • Hazards classification: Corrosive R22- hazardous if swallowed. R35- causes serious burns.

4. FIRST AID MEASURES

  • On skin: Remove splashes on the skin with a lot of water and soap.
    MEDICAL ATTENTION SHOULD BE SOUGHT IMMEDIATELY
  • In eyes: Remove contact lenses and irrigate the eyes with copious amounts of water.
    MEDICAL ATTENTION SHOULD BE SOUGHT IMMEDIATELY
  • If swallowed: Do not induce vomiting.
    MEDICAL ATTENTION SHOULD BE SOUGHT IMMEDIATELY
  • Inhalation: Remove to fresh air. Keep at rest. Seek medical advice if patient does not quickly recover.
    MEDICAL ATTENTION SHOULD BE SOUGHT IMMEDIATELY

5. FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES

  • Flash point: 70 ºC
  • Extinguishing media: foam, water
  • Special protective Equipment for a fire: self contained breathing apparatus pressure demand and full protective gear.

6. ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES

  • Cleaning up: Dike and absorb spill with inert materials. Dispose off according to state or other applicable laws and regulations.
  • Environmental Precautions: avoid runoff into storm sewers and ditches which lead to waterways.
  • Personal precautions: wear suitable clothing (see section 8).

7. HANDLING AND STORAGE

  • Handling: Avoid contact with skin and inhalation mist or vapours.
  • Storage: Keep product on a dry place in a closed packing. Avoid contact with bases.
  • Packaging material: stainless steel, HDPE.

8. EXPOSURE CONTROLS/ PERSONAL PROTECTION

  • MAC: 5 mg/m3.
  • preventive measures: clean contaminated clothing before re-use. Good general ventilation is necessary.
  • Personal protection: Wear nitril rubber gloves, safety glasses and protection gloves. If significant vapours, mist or aerosols are present, use NOISH approved respirator or equivalent.

  • Solubility: oil, naphtha, aromatic solvents. Dispersible in water.

10. STABILITY AND REACTIVITY

  • Conditions to avoid: avoid contact with bases
  • Hazardous Decomposition Products: thermal decomposition/dissection can form the following products: carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide and sulphur dioxide.

11. TOXICOLOGICAL INFORMATION

  • This information is based on knowledge of the present substances and on toxicological data from similar substances.
  • Skin contact: caustic, repeated or prolonged contact can cause dehydration and degreasing of the skin. LD50> 2000 mg/kg.
  • Inhalation: inhalation of vapours can cause irritations.
  • Ingestion: LD50> 750 mg/kg (surfactant, calculated on product).The product is irritating.

12. ECOLOGICAL INFORMATION

  • This information is based on knowledge of the compounds used in the product.
  • The product is dispersible with water. In case the product penetrates into the ground, it spreads out and can pollute subsoil water. The product is biodegradable, it can bio-accumulate and is poisonous for organics in water treatment plants.

13. DISPOSAL CONSIDERATIONS

  • Disposal method: dispose of material in accordance with federal, state, local or applicable laws and regulations.
  • Product disposal: Leftovers and contaminated product must be removed as chemical waste.
  • Polluted packing Material: Empty packing material well and present it for recycling or destruction.
